What is an Extender and How to use it?

With the original smART sketcher® Projector, the activity content arrives in as SD card while with the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector the activity content arrives in a cartridge. You can’t directly insert an SD card into the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector. You need the Extender if your previously owned the original smART sketcher® Projector and you have SD cards that you want to use in your new smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector.

In order to use activity content SD cards with your smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector you will need an Extender that acts as an adapter that takes an SD card and can be inserted to the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector cartridge socket.

How to use the Extender?

1. Insert the SD card into the Extender.

2. Insert the Extender into the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector head.

3. Turn on the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector.

4. The first drawing in the activity content SD card will be projected. You can now start drawing.

How can I control the Projector light (brightness)?

You can control the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector brightness and dim the Projector light as required.

Press and hold the circle button on the projector for 2 seconds to toggle between Regular brightness and “Efficiency mode” brightness. When operating the projector with batteries, it is highly recommended to switch to “Efficiency mode” to reduce the projector brightness. This will ensure longer operation time using batteries. The selected brightness level is automatically stored by the projector; next time you turn on the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector it will resume to the selected brightness.

Please note that that smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector will automatically reduce it's brightness to "Efficiency mode" in case the power level is low.

For a more fine-grained brightness control, please use the smART sketcher Projector App:

1. Turn-on your smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector.

2. Turn-on Bluetooth on your mobile device/tablet and launch the smART sketcher® App.

3. Connect the App to the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector via Bluetooth.

4. In the main screen, drag right the Settings Cogwheel and release it to enter the Settings menu.

5. Drag the Projector Brightness slider to decrease or increase the Projector light. The selected brightness level is automatically stored by the projector; next time you turn on the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector it will resume to the selected brightness.

My Projector is on, but I can’t see an image.

First check if you see a green light near the power switch at the back of the projector. If you don't see a green light you need to verify you are powering the projector correctly. See this Link.

Check your activity content cartridge.

If the activity content cartridge isn’t inserted properly, you won’t see an image (you will just see an Insert Cartridge message). Turn the Projector off, insert the cartridge correctly and then turn on again the projector and see if that helps.

If the content cartridge is inserted properly and you still see an Insert Cartridge message please check if you see any error message (it will appear at the bottom of the projected image in red font).

If the error message is Low Voltage Err, it means the projector is not receiving the required amount of power - make sure you are powering the projector correctly. See this Link.

In addition, we strongly recommend using the provided USB cord and a USB power plug as batteries may drain fast.

My Activity content cartridge isn’t working. What should I do?

There could be one of several solutions.

1. The activity content cartridge may not be inserted correctly. Make sure it is fully inserted.

If you see a different error message, please open a support ticket for a solution (make sure to state the error message in the ticket description). In the meantime, you can still use the smART sketcher app to sketch your pictures or to draw your cartridge drawings by using the activity content SOS feature.

What is the activity content SOS?

The activity content SOS is an App feature that allows you to project and draw your cartridge drawings even if there is no cartridge in the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector ear. It’s a great way to draw if your cartridge is lost or broken.

Prerequisites:

  • A mobile device/tablet with the smART sketcher® Projector App installed.
  • The activity content from the cartridge already downloaded on your mobile device/tablet. This happens automatically the first time you connect the App to the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector and an activity content cartridge is present.
  • No activity content cartridge is inserted into the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector ear.

Limitations:

  • When using activity content SOS mode, each step of the drawing is transferred to the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector via Bluetooth. As a result, it takes more time to project a drawing.
  • No animations will be shown on the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector when using activity content SOS mode.
  • The navigation between drawings and steps is done solely through the App. Clicking on the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector buttons will not trigger any operation.

How to enable activity content SOS feature:

1. Turn-on your smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector.

2. Turn-on Bluetooth on your mobile device/tablet and launch the smART sketcher® Projector App.

3. Connect the App to the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector via Bluetooth.

4. In the main screen, drag the Settings Cogwheel to the right and release it to enter the Settings menu.

5. Enable the activity content SOS toggle button. After the toggle is enabled, click the back arrow button to return to the main screen.

If no cartridge activity content was found on your local mobile device, the following message will be shown:

If an activity content cartridge was detected in the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector ear, the following message will be shown:

6. When you return to the main screen: if you have a single content cartridge downloaded on your mobile device, you will see the drawings of this cartridge. If you have multiple cartridges content downloaded you will be prompted to select the desired cartridge content to use.

Single cartridge content available:

Multiple cartridges content available. Select your desired cartridge content:

To return back to the cartridges content selection dialog, click the back arrow button on the bottom left corner of the screen:

7. To start sketching, select a drawing as usual and follow the instructions.

I can’t connect the App via Bluetooth

Important:

Before following the steps in the below troubleshooting guide first make sure the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector is operating correctly: if the Projector is under-powered, Bluetooth connectivity will not work.
When turned on, you should see an image projected from the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector.
- If there is no activity cartridge in the Projector ear you should see an Insert Cartridge image projected.
- If there is an activity cartridge inserted in the Projector ear you should see a drawing projected.
In case you don't see anything projected, or in case you see an error message projected with the image (i.e. low voltage, etc.), you first need to troubleshoot your smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector operation and only after it is working correctly to continue with this guide.

Bluetooth connectivity troubleshooting guide:

In order to locate and connect to the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector, the App requires that Bluetooth will be enabled on your mobile device/tablet. If your device fails to connect to the smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector follow the troubleshooting steps below. Please note that the steps are different for iOS and Android.

First, make sure that:

  • Your smART sketcher® 2.0 Projector is turned on.
  • Bluetooth is Enabled on your mobile device/tablet.
